The tale concealed between light and darkness
Gerardo Rosato’s installation work is rooted in a research path that embraces light and shadow as the primary elements of a visual script capable of transcending matter. The artist does not merely create forms in space, but entrusts the projected shadows with the role of an autonomous language—subtle yet powerful—able to generate parallel narratives that exist in the suspension between the visible and the invisible.
Within these compositions, the narrative dimension reveals itself in an ambivalent way: the shadows suggest untold stories, silent memories that resist direct representation, while at the same time taking shape as a fabric of outlines, dissolves, and stratifications that compel the viewer to complete their meaning. What emerges is an oblique form of storytelling, where what withdraws from the light becomes as central as what is illuminated.
This reflection also unfolds with an ethical resonance: shadows preserve what immediate vision tends to marginalise or erase, giving space back to what remains in the penumbra. The viewer is entrusted with the responsibility of recognising and questioning this hidden tale, in a constant dialogue between truth and illusion, presence and absence. In this perspective, Rosato’s work is not merely an aesthetic experience but a critical act, capable of revealing the unspoken and transforming darkness into a fertile ground for memory, imagination, and possibility.

Il racconto celato tra luce e oscurità
L’opera installativa di Gerardo Rosato si colloca in un percorso di ricerca che assume la luce e l’ombra come elementi primari di una scrittura visiva capace di andare oltre la materia. L’artista non si limita a creare forme nello spazio, ma affida alle ombre proiettate la funzione di un linguaggio autonomo, sottile e insieme potente, in grado di generare narrazioni parallele che vivono nella sospensione tra visibile e invisibile.
In queste composizioni la dimensione del racconto si rivela in maniera ambivalente: le ombre suggeriscono storie non dette, memorie silenziose che sfuggono a una rappresentazione diretta, e al tempo stesso si configurano come un tessuto di contorni, dissolvenze e stratificazioni che sollecitano lo spettatore a completarne il senso. Ne emerge così una narrazione obliqua, dove ciò che si sottrae alla luce diventa protagonista tanto quanto ciò che viene illuminato.
La riflessione si apre anche a una valenza etica: le ombre custodiscono ciò che la visione immediata tende a marginalizzare o a rimuovere, restituendo spazio a ciò che resta in penombra. Allo spettatore è affidata la responsabilità di riconoscere e interrogare quel racconto nascosto, in un dialogo costante tra verità e illusione, presenza e assenza. In questa prospettiva, l’opera di Rosato non si configura soltanto come esperienza estetica, ma come atto critico, capace di rivelare l’inespresso e di trasformare il buio in un terreno fertile di memoria, immaginazione e possibilità.
