He was born in Turin in 1970, where he lives and works. He graduated in 1997 from the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti in Turin. Carlo D’Oria has always explored the theme of the fragile and precarious human condition in the world, giving form to an original dialectic between individuality and the multitude, capable of conveying the complex relationship that humans have with themselves and the environment around them. In his works, he creates sculptures with essential forms and lines, minimal plastic figures, geometries, mechanisms, colours and materials that combine to represent a universe populated by the traces of human presence in the world. Through his ability to articulate the weight of materials into light forms with essential lines, he gives shape with a light touch to figures from our imagination, such as thinkers and philosophers (The Thinker, 2021) or mythological elements such as Icarus (Icarus, 2021). Rough and industrial materials, such as iron, Corten steel, resin and wax, interact with noble materials such as marble and bronze.

The weightiness of materials such as marble, iron and stone is subjected to a process of lightening, resulting in a harmonious and skilful synthesis of abstraction and figuration. This aims to delineate the lines of force and contours of the human condition through narrative works of strong symbolic impact, capable of representing scenes of life with archetypal power. His works feature in numerous exhibitions, both group and solo, and in public collections such as the Farnesina Collection in Rome, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Rivara Castle (Turin), the Quarelli Art Park collection in Roccaverano (Atina), the Royal Castle of Racconigi (CN), MUA – Urban Aerospace Museum, Turin, and the Sculpture Park of Forte di Vinadio (CN). In 2003, he created the Porta dell’uomo, the gateway to the historic centre of Acqui Terme, Asti; in 2004, also in Acqui Terme, he created the Porta delle buone terre and the Porta delle acque termali. For the Quarelli Art Park in Roccaverano (AT), he presented the sculpture Lasso; in 2016, Germogli for the Castle of Rivara – Museum of Contemporary Art, Rivara (TO); and in 2017, Germogli again in Monforte d’Alba (CN). For the travelling exhibition Art Site – Royal Residences, he installed the work Caverna in the Park of Racconigi Castle (CN). Aquae Mundi – Artist’s Bench in 2019 was the tenth in a series of Artist’s Benches in the public park of Vigone (TO); in 2020, Germogli was acquired and installed at the entrance to the town of Vigone (TO). In 2020, he created the sculpture *Terra* for the municipality of Collegno, marking the conclusion of a series of installations created for the MUA – Turin Urban Aerospace Museum. Finally, in 2021, he created the site-specific work Flusso for the municipality of Vinadio (CN), situated in the sculpture park of Forte di Vinadio. In 2024, he opened the solo exhibition Domani nella battaglia pensa a me at Fondazione 107 (TO).
